Genius Hour #1 End

This project was really fun, I got to learn how to solve a Rubik’s cube really fast as well as meet one of the best cuber in Alberta. My presentation went well but I definitely could have spoke slower and more clear. Overall it was a great time doing this project and I definitely learned things about time management.

Week 14

This week I cleaned my cube. When I asked my expert how to maintain your cube he said that you have to clean it quite a bit. It takes a long time to clean a cube cause you have to clean each part for a while. I’ve also researched different cubes and what the difference was between them. The GAN maglev is good but really expensive.

Consulting an Expert

This week I was able to get into contact with one of Alberta’s top competitor’s Alex Mutch. He told me about competitive cubing, algorithms and more.

Also this week I tried to improve on of the steps in the algorithm I use, but its harder than I thought so I’m gonna have to put extra work into it.

Blog Catchup

Since the last I posted I’ve tried to contact an expert twice, but both times they didn’t respond. I’ve also been memorizing algorithms, which is actually quite hard. I’ve noticed I have gotten a bit faster but not by much.

Week 6

Last time I posted I got around 45 second solves. Since then I’ve gotten faster and have got down to around 25 seconds. I hard to remember all of the different algorithms because there is so many. I also got a new personal best of 7.55 seconds.

Personal Best
Another fast solve

Week 5

In the past 5 weeks I have been able to improve my time by 15 seconds. Getting a faster time is way harder than I thought, I think I should start learning some more advanced algorithms.

Genius Hour Planning

For my genius hour project, I’m going to learn how to solve a Rubix cube but get an average solve time below 25 seconds. When I achieve my goal I will be able to solve a and set up a cube. I will probably start with the basics of cubing then advance my way to being able to recognize patterns. I am going to need some cube lube to set up a cube as well as some spare parts to customize them. I’m probably not gonna need much help other than my parents driving me to places to get supplies.
