Final blog post

I think our presentation went good, we had some jokes and was overall pretty good. This genius hour was also really successful, we got to learn to make noodles and mostly not failing all the time with the exception of the rice noodles. It was a fun and tastey project and was really enjoyable.

Week 10

So we found an expert and he solved our rice noodle problem. We went to Lan Noodle because it had been to smokey to bike to the other places. We met this guy, and he was really nice. He told us that they were probably to dry. He said to put some oil on it to help it be less dry. Now we are trying to sort out what we will do for our presentation.

Week 9

So we have planned out what were gonna do for our expert. We gonna go biking down town this weekend, go to some noodle places like Dagu Rice Noodles, Oodle Noodle, and Hu’s Noodle Nook. We mostly want to get expertise at Dagu since our rice noodles weren’t the best, but if not, we’ll go to the other places.

Week 8

Currently we are trying to find an expert. We’re going to go downtown and try to ask some noodle places. We are hoping to find someone at Dagu rice noodles. We want to find a rice noodle place because those have really failed, so we want expert advice to help them

Week 7

Yesterday we made rice noodles. Instead of using normal flour we used rice flour which is used similar to flour, as well as xanthem gum which is a thickening agent that works quite well, and tapioca starch which make it more fluffy, spongy texture. Normally we would use room temp or cold water, but this time we had to use boiling water. The noodle were really good, although there was a problem. When the noodle came out of the machine they kinda crumbled apart. I think we didn’t quite put in boiling water and not enough.

Week 6

We’re about halfway done our project, though we still need to find an expert and do hand pulled noodles. We couldn’t do too much on our project since band camp and me being sick.

Week 3

This week we made a noodle called udon. Last time we only used water and flour to make our noodle, but this time we added in a bit of gluten and some potato starch. It made it a bit more fat and more chewy than last time. My dad made the base for the noodle’s.

Week 2

This week we panned out what noodle we wanted to make next. We couldn’t make any this week because of conflicting hockey schedules. We think we want to make ramen noodles.

Plan

Our plan for this genius hour is to make noodles, specifically Asian noodles. We are starting with using a machine, but later we want to hand pull them.
